With
its huge brake chute billowing, SR-71A 64-17960 rolls to a halt on the
runway at RAF Mildenhall during Air Fete in May 1986. Most times the chute
was jettisoned, but occasionally would snag, requiring a technician to
scramble upon the wing and rear fuselage to release. A precarious task,
as the aircraft surfaces retained heat from flight at extreme altitudes.
